Superbowl Sunday

I was at JDawg’s folks’ place for Superbowl Sunday, so we could watch it together on teevee.

This was my outfit that day. It was a very warm day! I didn’t have to wear a jacket.

Free People Shaggy Knit in Lavender, Anthropologie loop scarf, Abercrombie Kids jeans, Frye Carmens in Black, Bal Mini Pompon in Black and Shappo!

It took me a while to get the loop scarf to look decent!

20130208-223439.jpg

It was his brother Matt’s birthday the next day, so his mom baked a cake. Here it is, looking awesome in the arvo sun.

20130208-223621.jpg

She also made a very yummy pot of minestrone soup from scratch. It was really good!

20130208-223712.jpg

I was trying to take peektures of Bob again. While he was going nuts nuzzling against me.

20130208-223817.jpg

If this next shot was taken by the Sony NEX, it would have been clear. Sigh.

Doing the shifty sideways glance.

20130208-224014.jpg

They also have two beautiful cats. Miss Cindy Lou…

20130208-224117.jpg

And Juno…

20130208-224153.jpg

A miraculously clear peekture of Brindy! Miraculous because she doesn’t stop moving.

Their cosy living room with the game on teevee.

20130208-224333.jpg

After the game, I got home and made fried rice with mushroom and spinach. Shappo had some too.

20130208-224436.jpg

And a moto outfit peekture for the ladies!

Coming up next, a mini makeover for his apartment!

Bob and Brindy came to visit

His parents brought the dogs over on the Saturday before the Superbowl. I didn’t actually know the dogs were coming along, I thought they were picking me up to go over to their place! So Bob and Brindy marched right in and were all over the place in an instance!

That was fine but after we went for a walk nearby in a large field covered with lots and lots of poop (I guess everyone nearby walks their dogs here), they came back to the apartment and were everywhere again. I had vacuumed before they arrived, and I vacuumed again after they left. :P I also had to wipe down the bathroom floor with detergent and put all the floor mats into the wash for the second time in two days.

Here is my dog-walking outfit. I wore my Abercrombie and Fitch shearling parka, Free People Shaggy Knit in Fuchsia, Anthropologie loop scarf, Abercrombie Kids jeans (probably the only jeans that I can wear without massive alterations), Bearpaw shearling boots.

20130208-034115.jpg

The Shaggy Knit looks red here, I know. It’s a very vibrant fuchsia that looks red indoors and the fuchsia only comes up in natural daylight outdoors.

20130208-034331.jpg

I have more peektures of the same outfit with my Bal moto instead of A&F parka, but for now, dog peektures first!

20130208-034615.jpg

Sorry Brindy, it’s mostly of Bob. I’m a little biased. I love Bob.

It was tricky trying to get Bob to look in the camera (phone in this case).

20130208-035120.jpg

After I came back and cleaned up, I did outfit shots with moto. This is my first moto + jeans outfit!

20130208-035430.jpg

I wish I had the time to try on and buy another pair of jeans when I was in Boston with Vi. I remember we were extremely tired and just wanted to leave to get dinner. I tried about five pairs and it turns out sizing is tricky. Different washed jeans seem to fit differently! If they could just keep it standard, I would be able to order online easily. Oh well… I’m glad to at least have one pair anyway!

Coming up next, Superbowl Sunday…

My first solo Target adventure

JDawg was away for the Superbowl, so Friday night entertainment was my very first solo adventure at Target!

I was looking forward to wearing my Annie Oakley skirt from Free People, with a Cloud Grey Chan Luu scarf and plain white tee shirt from Taiwan. I have been wanting to recreate this look since I saw it on the Free People site!

20130207-124532.jpg

This is my take on it. How did I do?

20130207-124610.jpg

The scarf turns out more blue in peektures than in person. Boots are my trusty Frye Carmens in Black.

Worn with my Bal moto…

With my Black Mini Pompon and Shappo <3

20130207-125023.jpg

20130207-125038.jpg

Here we are, walking to Target. The weather was really nice. A little breezy but not too cold.

20130207-125137.jpg

My first stop was to check out the Simply Shabby Chic line that Vi told me about.

20130207-125229.jpg

I loved it all. Every bed set was beautiful!

20130207-125306.jpg

20130207-125321.jpg

20130207-125334.jpg

My favourite was the blue comforter set. <3

20130207-125420.jpg

20130207-125445.jpg

20130207-125501.jpg

The kiddy sets were very nice too! Loved the brown ponies!

20130207-125555.jpg

20130207-125718.jpg

The owl design was quaint and kitschy.

20130207-125641.jpg

The ladybug set was adorable too!

20130207-125755.jpg

I found the softest blanket I have ever touched in my life… And I knew I had to have it!

20130207-125836.jpg

Saw a lovely knit blanket that would be nice for my Singapore bed.

20130207-125933.jpg

I was looking all over for Simply Shabby Chic sheet and pillowcase sets and finally found them in a corner!

20130207-130034.jpg

20130207-130051.jpg

20130207-130110.jpg

20130207-130129.jpg

Then I stocked up on fresh fruit and went home with a head full of ideas. Chatted with Vi and made noodles with spinach and egg for dinner.

20130207-130345.jpg

The next day, JDawg’s parents brought the dogs, Bob and Brindy to visit! Here’s an earlier peekture I took of them when we were over for dinner.

20130207-130646.jpg

This is Bob. I love Bob. He is just adorable, like a big, gentle bear.

Stay tuned for peektures of the dog-walking day!

Night Trek @ Old Lim Chu Kang Road

Having snapped a million peektures of my spideybubs in the comfort of my own home, shooting outdoors is really something else. Swimming in humidity, drenched in perspiration, lack of stable things to lean on, bloodsuckers hovering over/attacking any exposed skin, getting the right amount of light on the subject… Countless variables make it so much more challenging to get a good peekture. And of course, spotting the subjects in the first place. LOL.

Shooting macro without a macro lens was also a bit of a pain. I guess I will be getting one soon.

A cooperative Huntsman.

And another (on a tree)

Night macro shooters

With impressive equipment

One of my fave creatures of the night

Snail who outgrew his home?

I thought I had a clearer shot of this web spider

It turns out my camera LCD doesn’t always show the truth.

Another not-as-clear-as-I-like

One gorgeous centipede

Tree frog was very patient

Pretty much on all the shots, I wish I could have gotten more detail. I have been spoilt by my Ricoh.

Supper afterwards was dim sum near Old Upper Thomson Road, where my primary school used to be.

Carrot cake (Chinese style)

Deep fried dumplings

Rice rolls

The food turned out to be rather good! I will post details and location when I’m in the area again.

Little Mia

Spent a nice day at Doc’s yesterday and met his lovely puppy at last, the adorable Mia!

20120609-112710.jpg

She was a little shy, very endearing. Apparently I was the first person she didn’t run away from when we first met.

20120609-112735.jpg

She was very different from most other dogs I’ve met. Very meek and quiet. I like her. Even though she did steal Music Shappo when we were watching a movie on teevee! Thankfully Doc spotted the crime pretty quick. LOL!

20120609-112824.jpg

It’s good that she isn’t a slobbery puppy! It seemed she did carry him very carefully to her bed too. I think she only wanted a new friend. I guess Shappo was too cute. He seems no worse nor traumatised by the kidnapping, but I did give him a Dettol wet wipe bath when we got home, because she did put him in her bed (paws, germs from walking outdoors). :P

Riders Cafe

bB has finally made it to Riders Cafe! This has been delayed for a while now.

It is a known fact that bB has a soft spot for all animals, big and small. Except for roaches, mozzies and sand flies. Everything else is <3. But it is not as commonly known, that bB’s first <3 was the horse.

I grew up reading Walter Farley’s The Black Stallion. When I was ten, my first ambition was to be a jockey. I wanted to win the Kentucky Derby. My mom thought I was mad.

Thinking it was an unhealthy obsession, I was never even allowed near horses until I was much older. The first time I actually rode one, I was 14. It was a school fair at a different school and they brought in a horse to give rides. Having been deprived for that long, I was happy yet terrified. Up until today, I’m still a little frightened of horses, like they are something not meant to be touched or handled. They are almost dreamlike, to me. But I do love them so. <3

Kate and I were very lucky to see a few horsies out and about that morning.

20120220-193545.jpg

20120220-193739.jpg

We both ordered Eggs Benny. Kate’s ones were specified not to include any pork, so there were mushrooms instead of bacon.

20120220-194008.jpg

20120220-194209.jpg

While we agreed the Eggs Benny were tasty, it was disappointing that Kate’s specification on the pork wasn’t taken seriously. There must have been pork in something on her plate, because she ended up throwing it all up in the toilet. I’m guessing the mushrooms were cooked in the same pan as the bacon, maybe. After we told the waiter about what happened, he looked stunned and did not offer any apology or explanation. Tsk tsk! Very poorly handled.

Still like the place and the horsies, and will revisit, despite the less than satisfactory experience. Hopefully something like that doesn’t happen again.

My first snail friend

bB was taking a nice, leisurely shower last evening, when she saw a little dot moving up the wall.

Being slightly myopic, she had to lean closer to see what it was… And it was the teeniest, weeniest, little snail! He was laboriously crawling up the wall, completely drenched from bB’s splashing around, but moving along very determinedly.

bB took care to finish her shower without getting more water on that particular part of the wall… She dried off, went out the bathroom, did her skincare, blow-dried her hair, and came back to look for the little friend. He was nowhere to be seen!

“Do snails crawl that fast?”, bB wondered.

So she went about doing something else, and then casually commented to Mom that she saw a snail in the shower. Mom’s reaction was rather surprising.

“WHAT? And you left it in there? Why didn’t you get it out?”

So into the bathroom, bB went again.

“I don’t see it!”

And then, she saw the little snail friend, crawling along up the underside of a water pipe, full of determination.

“There you are!”

She plucked him off the pipe, oh-so-carefully, with her fingers, and put him on her fingernail. He spent the next 20 minutes exploring nail and finger. bB then had to rush out for an appointment, so she carried him out with her and deposited him onto a leaf of her neighbour’s potted plant.

“Buhbye, little snail friend!”

She then spent the next hour wondering if she should have brought him to the ground floor and put him on the grass instead. What if there was no food on the potted plant? What do snails actually eat? Is he going to be okay?
