Gardens by the Bay is open! bB and mR spent Saturday evening exploring it. There were hordes of people, and the queue for tickets was horrendous! Thankfully, bB bought an annual pass, so no more queuing for a year! I think the ticketing area is the most uncomfortable part of the entire place… They should do more to chill the area. By the time we had our tickets and entered, we were all hot and sticky. Not a comfortable experience, which is a waste because the rest of the park was very comfortable.
We checked out the Cloud Forest first, where the waterfall was. The entrance led right to the waterfall and it was quite a good impact – chilly with droplets of water flying onto everyone.
The Flower Dome I thought was less interesting than the Cloud Forest. Maybe because it was dark and not much could be seen. Also because many of the creepers and vines were still very young and everything kinda needs to grow more before the entire place looks more lush. Definitely want to check this out in the day to look at the plants more closely.
I loved the bottle trees though. <3
The human heart bottle tree. <3
This hole in the floor was changing colours…
After watching the Supertrees in the distance in anticipation for months, bB finally got to see them up close! They were massive and awesome. But we missed the 8:30 pm deadline to go up. Well, bB is definitely coming back! Especially next month when the restaurant on the tree top opens.
They also need more F&B establishments in this place… It was so difficult just to get refreshments! I guess they want to keep the place clean… But I reckon if they have some good eateries here, people would definitely keep coming back. With the two domes as they are right now, I don’t see why most people would want to go more than once. Put a cafe behind the waterfall on the higher levels, and a cafe next to the field of flowers, and business would surely b(l)oom.

He looks like Ian Thorpe (Australian Top Swimmer)..
LOL! I see the similarities!
He’s definitely not as tall though. Ian Thorpe is quite a giant!
Wow that is very impressive – the super trees are real?
mR is better looking than Thorpie. He actually reminds me of a younger Paul Reiser (from Mad About You) ;)
Taken from Wikipedia:
Supertrees are tree-like structures that dominate the Gardens landscape with heights that range between 25 and 50 metres. They are vertical gardens that perform a multitude of functions, which include planting, shading and working as environmental engines for the gardens.
The Supertrees are home to enclaves of unique and exotic ferns, vines, orchids and also a vast collection of bromeliads such as Tillandsia, amongst other plants. They are fitted with environmental technologies that mimic the ecological function of trees – photovoltaic cells that harness solar energy which can be used for some of the functions of the Supertrees, such as lightings, just like how trees photosynthesize; collection of rainwater for use in irrigation and fountain displays, just like how trees absorb rainwater for growth. The Supertrees also serve air intake and exhaust functions as part of the Conservatories’ cooling systems.
There will also be an elevated walkway between some of the larger Supertrees for visitors to enjoy a breathtaking aerial view of the Gardens. A food and beverage outlet has also been planned atop the 50-metre Supertree. At night, the Supertrees come alive with lighting and project media.
Googled Paul Reiser… They do look alike in certain peektures! Paul Reiser seems to look very different from different angles though… I never saw Mad About You. :P
Haha should have wiki’d it but I had Jellybean in arms so that’s my excuse ;)
Loved Mad About You – glad they’re showing the reruns! (ps I reckon mR looks like Reiser from the good angle)
Hehe! It’s okay, easier to read here than to search on Wiki! :)
