Chillax Massage Cafe

Weekday brekkie with the ladies at Serangoon Gardens!

I arrived at 10:30 am as agreed, but Talise and Kathryn were held up. The cafe wasn’t even open yet! The cook was sitting outside and told me they would open at 11ish. :P

So when the ladies arrived, we had our morning cuppa at Wang cafe nearby first.

20120629-181420.jpg

It was a crazy warm day… To our dismay, the cafe turned out to be al fresco.

20120629-181534.jpg

Lots of fans around but it was still pretty sweltering…

20120629-181559.jpg

Due to the weather conditions, I had to have an ice-blended drink despite wanting to have a coffee at first. I had a Honey-Yuzu Ice-Blended, which was very good and refreshing.

20120629-181638.jpg

I thought the truffle fries were quite well done, although Kathryn didn’t like them very much. She thought they were like fries from McDee’s with a hint of truffle scent. LOL!

20120629-181712.jpg

We ordered two sets of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, which were eggs benny. Very generous with the greens and parma ham, and very messy to eat (messiest eggs benny I have ever had) but the taste was really good. If there was A/C in the joint, I could have easily polished everything on my plate. But the heat made it kinda unbearable. I ate one and a half of the two in a set.

A parting shot with Talise’s Cyclamen Twiggy with my Glycine Mini Pompon, and our combined SLGs, and Mini Shappo! <3

20120629-181812.jpg

It is a real pity that this establishment is al fresco. The owner tells us his main crowd comes in the evenings, and no A/C is needed. I guess we may go back there for supper if we do go back. Having brekkie or brunch there is out of the question.

The Plain

Ketchup with Jean, the preggers Mrs Darling, at Vincent’s cafe, The Plain.

bB has been to The Plain once, with Kate for brunch one day. I didn’t know Vincent was the owner. LOL!

20120623-150016.jpg

It’s been a while since I had such awesome coffee… Possibly not since Melbourne. So, so good. Even with just a touch of caffeine, it tasted like a full-bodied latte.

Bar Stories

Had an awesome ketchup with Susan at Blu Jaz (11 Bali Lane) over a potent glass of gin & tonic, deep-fried chicken balls (known as Balls of Fire), and lusciously thick potato wedges. Haven’t seen her in half a year! It was so good to ketchup.

P came over to make sure I wasn’t falling over from the gin, and we went to Bar Stories nearby. I didn’t actually realise it was so close by! It was a few minutes to walk to. I’ve been wanting to check it out for a while now.

It is a cafe in the day time, known as Cafe Fables, and turns into a bar at night, ie Bar Stories.

There is no drink menu here. The bartender whips up anything according to your preference. I told him I was having gin and didn’t want to mix, and I like fruity drinks. He made this amazing grape and gin cocktail which was absolutely perfect.

20120621-121950.jpg

P had a Manhattan variation with the whiskey substituted for something else. I can’t remember what it was, but it was a very strong drink. It was very pretty though, with the round chunk of ice and orange peel.

Beaujolais Wine Bar

Cosy dinner with P before we met up with his friends for drinks.

By the time we walked over from his office in Shenton Way, I was melting in the humidity. What is wrong with the weather these days? I don’t think Singapore has ever been this horribly warm and humid. My only requirement for an eatery for dinner was… A/C.

Beaujolais was a pleasant little wine bar/restaurant, and we were shown upstairs upon our request for A/C. It was quiet and cosy, though a little hard to get service from the waiter, unless he happened to come upstairs. We were basically at the mercy of his initiative. Thankfully, he didn’t keep us waiting too often.

We had three dishes from the tapas menu. Steak in Chimicurri sauce, which wasn’t too bad except the beef wasn’t very tender. Might have been better if they cut thinner slices…

20120620-141048.jpg

The prawns were really good. Cooked just right and the flavours were awesome.

20120620-141114.jpg

The escargots were a disappointment. They smelt divine when the waiter removed the lid of the little pot, but upon tasting, bB thought they had a strange aftertaste. Almost like flour… I thought it might be a one-off and tried another. Same aftertaste.

20120620-141135.jpg

Then it was time for drinks with his friends a few doors away…

Jester Shappo (July release)

A new Shappo will be released next month! Just as I was complaining about waiting. :D

It looks like the new theme is Jester/Joker Shappo and playing cards.

20120616-025148.jpg

While I’m not terribly excited about this theme (it’s not as cute as the previous themes, especially the candy theme), I am VERY EXCITED about a new Shappo plushie. I hope his little jester’s outfit can be taken off as well. It looks like it could be! He looks a little like he belongs in Alice in Wonderland, doesn’t he?

20120616-025203.jpg

Some gorgeous new mugs… These look like a good size. I like bigger mugs.

20120616-025215.jpg

I quite like this new pen too!

20120616-030358.jpg

Yay for July! <3

Check out the San-X page for more new Sentimental Circus items for release in July.

Black @ TripleOne Somerset

After a few hours of satisfying shopping, Kate and bB finally sat ourselves down for a late lunch and coffee.

20120616-002743.jpg

20120616-002808.jpg

20120616-002835.jpg

bB asked for a quarter-shot latte (I know, why not have decaf? But… decaf just doesn’t cut it. Even a quarter shot makes a difference!) but it turned out a little too strong to be a true quarter shot. Kate thought so as well, after tasting it. Both of us heard the barista say “three-quarter shot” after he finished making it. The barista insisted it was a quarter shot. So, the kind waiter added milk and I only drank half of it.

Food was excellent. Everything was very fresh and the meal hit just the right spot. bB only intended to have one piece of toast but ended up finishing it all.

Glycine MPP’s first day out

Glycine has finally made it out officially! The scent of new leather is so intoxicating… bB keeps secretly trying to catch whiffs of it when carrying Glycine. LOL!

As I mentioned earlier, dayum I look so oddly goth here.

20120616-002417.jpg

Maybe I should start wearing eye make-up like this.

Thanks to Glycine, I have finally gotten over Murier, the very first Balenciaga Mini Pompon I have ever wanted but could never find. :)

New tees from H&M

Thursday was an awesome day for an impromptu shopping and lunch session for Kate and bB! I’m so glad we went… Not only did we finally get the nude bras we have been watching out for (since months ago), there were new designs of the tees I lovelovelove. Why do I love these tees so much? The material is just awesome. Perfect for our weather. And they look so slouchy casual while fitting me so very well.

There’s something about H&M’s fitting room lighting that makes people look a little like zombies? LOL! I look like I had goth make-up on. Even more so in the peektures I took with Glycine MPP (posting those in a bit).

Bought this…

20120616-002040.jpg

And this… (favourite of the lot)

20120616-002057.jpg

And this… (second favourite)

20120616-002120.jpg

And this.

20120616-002137.jpg

Passed on this… (I thought about this. When would I ever wear a red tee? Certainly not when I’m carrying my Coquelicot MPP. Then when? Never?)

20120616-002156.jpg

And this. (I didn’t mind the yellow but the green was a little too… green).

20120616-002213.jpg

Other than these tees, bB also nabbed two new dresses which fit beautifully. We couldn’t be arsed to queue again for the fitting rooms, so bB pulled them on over her clothes in front of the mirror. Hence, no mod shot for now. But they hug and flare in all the right places. The perfect little black/cream dress. Yes, bB bought the same style in different colours again.

It has been a while since bB went shopping proper. Shappo-shopping doesn’t count. LOL. On that note, San-X needs to release new Shappo designs soon. I’m getting tired of waiting already.

Salt Grill & Sky Bar

Jeffers and I took Kate to Salt Grill for her birthday dinner! We were there to catch the sunset, on the 55th floor of Ion Orchard.

Luke Mangan brings modern Australian cuisine to Singapore…

20120615-163747.jpg

The food was awesome, as usual. This deep fried squid appetiser disappeared in no time…

20120615-163819.jpg

All three of us had the same main – tenderloin with mashed pumpkin. The beef was fantastic and melted in the mouth. Mashed pumpkin I thought was a little too sweet, almost artificially sweet. Otherwise, the dish was perfect. I actually finished my food first, for the first time. :P bB eats very slowly and that is an understatement.

20120615-163933.jpg

20120615-164006.jpg

Always a lovely place for a celebration. The food never disappoints, although the service can be choppy. I actually left instructions for a chocolate dessert to be served with candles, but they completely overlooked it. Later when I asked the head waitress, she said she never received the right instructions from the person who answered my calls (twice, I left instructions). I think this is one area they need to improve on.

Nasi Lemak Kukus

Sunday night, a call from Freddie (my old neighbour from Melbourne) at 10 pm, and he whisked bB off to supper for a much needed break from work.

They pride themselves on their awesome nasi lemak. It seemed a little too heavy for supper, so I had the Power Burger. Wow, this was one fantastic burger! Choice of beef or chicken patty, wrapped in a thin layer of egg. This is even better than the Ramly burger!

Definitely going back for more!
