冰糖葫芦 is something bB has always been fascinated by.
As a kid, I have watched countless movies and teevee shows set in ancient China, where vendors peddle these glorious sticks of glistening candied haw in the streets. The children in the shows always loved them. For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to have a taste.
As a grown-up, I gradually forgot about them. But once in a while, when I see them on teevee or in a movie, I would still want one.
Today, I have finally satisfied this craving. Finally. After decades!
Mr Bb’s colleague from China brought these to the office. And he kindly brought them home for bB. <3
And wow… They rock! Now I know why the kids always loved these. I love it too!
Now I need to find out if they are available anywhere in Singapore!
edit: After sniffing around the internet, I found out I had yummy versions of the original! The original ones are actual hawthorn fruit in a sugar coating. Apparently, the fruit can be tangy (or sour, depending on whether you like or dislike it LOL). The ones I had were processed haw, in a sugar coating. Apparently the originals do not taste as nice as they look. LOL! I have to thank Mr Bb for preserving my lovely memories of candied haw since childhood! I also had an updated version, made with fresh strawberries, when I was in Taipei. Those were very nommy too. :D
