Shappos getting dressed!

Likewise as before, it seems virtually impossible to get an embedded video from Youtube to play at a more decent resolution by default. Please click on the little “change quality” button on the bottom of the Youtube player (looks like a flower LOL) and choose 360p. The control panel will pop up after you click “play”.

Lunch @ Shashlik (again)

Lunch with Kate! This was a Wed. It turns out the lunch set at Shashlik was… oxtail stew!

Wow, this was so much better than the cutlet things they serve on other days!

As usual, bB had to have the borsch…

The oxtail stew was delicious! The portion wasn’t big, but just nice for Kate and bB.

For dessert, we decided to forgo the cut fruit and ice cream with canned fruit. We went for a Banana Flambe. Best choice ever, it was.

It was so awesome! The banana slices were warm, sweet and tangy at the same time. The huge scoop of vanilla ice cream was the perfect complement.

We rolled out with very happy bellies!

Candy Shappo’s Arrival

Wheee!

Geez… I don’t know what is wrong with the folks at Youtube. It seems virtually impossible to get an embedded video to play at a more decent resolution by default. There is a #3 on Shappo because I asked for peektures of ALL the Shappos the seller had, because every plushie has a different face. Seller was kind enough to oblige (and I think she totally understood too). :)

I felt an affinity with #3 when I looked through the peektures. <3 Maybe because I was the third child too.

Music Shappo and Candy Shappo hanging out together…

And Mini Shappo joins the fun!

My little Shappo family! Kinda weird because Shappo is a boy (to me) but Candy Shappo looks like the mommy in this peekture LOL! I can’t quite decide yet if they are three brothers, or should Candy Shappo be a girl-Shappo? I’m leaning towards three brothers…

Candied haw 冰糖葫芦

冰糖葫芦 is something bB has always been fascinated by.

As a kid, I have watched countless movies and teevee shows set in ancient China, where vendors peddle these glorious sticks of glistening candied haw in the streets. The children in the shows always loved them. For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to have a taste.

As a grown-up, I gradually forgot about them. But once in a while, when I see them on teevee or in a movie, I would still want one.

Today, I have finally satisfied this craving. Finally. After decades!

Mr Bb’s colleague from China brought these to the office. And he kindly brought them home for bB. <3

And wow… They rock! Now I know why the kids always loved these. I love it too!

Now I need to find out if they are available anywhere in Singapore!

edit: After sniffing around the internet, I found out I had yummy versions of the original! The original ones are actual hawthorn fruit in a sugar coating. Apparently, the fruit can be tangy (or sour, depending on whether you like or dislike it LOL). The ones I had were processed haw, in a sugar coating. Apparently the originals do not taste as nice as they look. LOL! I have to thank Mr Bb for preserving my lovely memories of candied haw since childhood! I also had an updated version, made with fresh strawberries, when I was in Taipei. Those were very nommy too. :D
