bB has finally made it to Riders Cafe! This has been delayed for a while now.
It is a known fact that bB has a soft spot for all animals, big and small. Except for roaches, mozzies and sand flies. Everything else is <3. But it is not as commonly known, that bB’s first <3 was the horse.
I grew up reading Walter Farley’s The Black Stallion. When I was ten, my first ambition was to be a jockey. I wanted to win the Kentucky Derby. My mom thought I was mad.
Thinking it was an unhealthy obsession, I was never even allowed near horses until I was much older. The first time I actually rode one, I was 14. It was a school fair at a different school and they brought in a horse to give rides. Having been deprived for that long, I was happy yet terrified. Up until today, I’m still a little frightened of horses, like they are something not meant to be touched or handled. They are almost dreamlike, to me. But I do love them so. <3
Kate and I were very lucky to see a few horsies out and about that morning.
We both ordered Eggs Benny. Kate’s ones were specified not to include any pork, so there were mushrooms instead of bacon.
While we agreed the Eggs Benny were tasty, it was disappointing that Kate’s specification on the pork wasn’t taken seriously. There must have been pork in something on her plate, because she ended up throwing it all up in the toilet. I’m guessing the mushrooms were cooked in the same pan as the bacon, maybe. After we told the waiter about what happened, he looked stunned and did not offer any apology or explanation. Tsk tsk! Very poorly handled.
Still like the place and the horsies, and will revisit, despite the less than satisfactory experience. Hopefully something like that doesn’t happen again.
