Pepper copiousity

Dinner in the hotel lounge when the mates went out walking and bB stayed in to work. Communicating to the staff was funny. Took three people to figure out that bB wanted additional salted duck egg with her fried rice with paper chicken.

20120131-103135.jpg

All the hassle of getting the salted duck egg was worth it. It was awesome! Powdery, soft yolk. The fried rice itself was quite good but they were very heavy handed with MSG and pepper seems to cost nothing. It was crazy peppery!

Shopping day with Kate

This was from last week! bB has been crazy busy…

We started off with breakfast at Everything With Fries at Orchard Central.

20120125-212222.jpg

20120125-212348.jpg

Kate had the Battered Fish Sandwich.

20120125-212436.jpg

bB had the Bacon Cheese Omelette Burger, with salt & vinegar fries to share with Kate, and a strawberry milkshake.

20120125-212631.jpg

We both agreed it was a simple yet awesome meal! Portions were very generous… We could not finish everything!

Next, we went bikini shopping at Quiksilver, before bB bought some macarons at Jewels…

20120125-212921.jpg

20120125-212933.jpg

It probably wasn’t the smartest thing to do on a very hot day when bB had a long day to go through before going home! More on that in **The Macaron Scribbles** soon.

Then, we were off to H&M…

20120125-213130.jpg

First mod shot with Black Mini Pompon worn cross-body. bB is enjoying this carefree way of wearing the MPP!

After that, it was time to try the shoes again at Hue, where they were being held for bB.

20120125-213420.jpg

And by some miracle, the shoes have been resisted! S$219 saved!

Kate tried her pair on hold at Nine West as well, and also resisted them! Must be something in the fries.

We ended up getting a pair of Heatwave heels each. For those who are not local, Heatwave is a chain shoe store that sells very affordable (think S$30-S$50) yet well made shoes. They have sizes as small as EU34 (which is great for Kate and bB), while most places only have EU35.

20120125-215043.jpg

Nope, they are still not black wedges. But! bB does have good news from NYC. Stay tuned. ;)

Spruce

A wonderful dinner was had at Spruce, with Kate, her adorable son Jerrell, and Amanda (who arrived a little later). The food was awesome!

Fruit juices are freshly squeezed here. Not from bottles! This is something lacking in many establishments today.

20120120-192157.jpg

The restaurant is cosy and has a lovely outdoor area as well. We chose to sit indoors to avoid feeding the mozzies…

20120120-192711.jpg

Kate and bB both chose the Steak Frites, bB opted to include foie gras with hers.

20120120-192828.jpg

One word – amazing!

The foie gras was beautifully done. Savoury crust on the outside, juicy and plump on the inside. Even Kate agreed it was good, and she usually fears the taste of foie gras.

20120120-193042.jpg

The good sized chunks of beef we each got, Kate’s done medium, bB’s done medium rare, were absolutely wonderful as well. Juicy, tender, perfectly seasoned with sea salt.

20120120-193404.jpg

This was one seriously good piece of meat.

20120120-193457.jpg

The fries were not the best I’ve had, but they were seasoned well and still very delectable. Best eaten piping hot.

For dessert, we shared a Ginger Date Pudding. The ginger flavour could have been stronger, but it was nommy anyway with the generous scoop of creamy, smooth vanilla ice cream.

20120120-193747.jpg

Butterscotch sauce was drizzled in a circle around the pudding and ice cream. If they had drizzled it directly on the pudding, it would have been awesome.

20120120-193904.jpg

Service was warm and prompt. All in all, a wonderful time was had and excellent food was consumed. bB will definitely be back at Spruce!

**The Macaron Scribbles** : ET Artisan Sweets #3

Here is the third and final report on bB’s first box of macarons from ET Artisan Sweets, the first macaron shoppe subjected to scrutiny in bB’s quest for nommy macarons in **The Macaron Scribbles**!

The last two macarons in the box were Yuzu and Rose. They look so pretty in peektures! <3

20120119-211121.jpg

20120119-211155.jpg

20120119-211136.jpg

bB has heard good things about the Yuzu macarons from ET Artisan Sweets.

20120119-211535.jpg

And it lived up to its reputation. The texture wasn’t as rough as some of the previous ones, and the filling was an awesome buttercream with a touch of tartness from a bit of jam. bB could eat this one again for sure.

Next up was the Rose. bB loved this colour. <3

20120119-212026.jpg

20120119-212112.jpg

The Rose was very full-flavoured. A little too sweet, but still enjoyable until maybe the last bite. bB may give this another try the next time to see if it’s always this sweet.

Stay tuned for the next macaron shoppe to be put to the taste (and appearance) test!

Love Bonito’s Quinn Top Review

The Quinn top is still available on Love Bonito, so bB hopes this review will help those who are still undecided on this piece.

They were a perfect fit for bB as well, thankfully!

bB bought both colours. In white…

20120118-141134.jpg

And in purple…

20120118-141224.jpg

It would have been good if the tops were made a little shorter, as I expect girls of my size would usually not be very tall. But that’s a small thing to rectify. Easily fixed at the tailor’s.

20120118-141449.jpg

20120118-141459.jpg

20120118-141517.jpg

20120118-141528.jpg

One other thing bB wished for was that they made this in a different material. It would be a very lovely piece if they used a satin or silken material, although I guess it would drive up the price. It’s not a horrible material as it is, it’s just a polyester material which feels slightly stiff, I’m guessing from the dye. This may soften up along the way with more washing.

The stiffer fabric does help to hold the shape and create a smooth silhouette when wearing the top. There is a soft lining within which helps cut down skin contact with the stiffer outer layer.

bB is quite happy with the Quinn tops. The fitting is perfect, which is rare for a non-stretchy cheongsam top. The buttons are slightly annoying to fiddle with, but bB can live with this.

Sizing: bB is a UK4-6 and bought the Quinn tops in XS.

Hope this comes in handy for your decision, ladies!

Love Bonito’s Paxton Top Review

Sorry for the hold-up! bB had a very busy day!

Hopefully this review comes in time for those of you going for the back-order tomorrow (technically today) before the deadline!

bB really likes the Paxton top. The high neck is very flattering.

20120118-015531.jpg

One thing to note is the arm-holes are cut quite inwards, so take note of bra straps being exposed if you are not wearing a strapless bra. bB intends to solve the problem with fashion tape because she dislikes wearing strapless bras.

20120118-015815.jpg

20120118-015827.jpg

Love Bonito seems to have mastered the perfect flattering cut to accentuate a small waist while hiding any potential hip or tummy bulges. Good job!

But this makes it slightly tricky to tuck into a low waist skirt. bB may need a high waist skirt at some point.

20120118-020022.jpg

The Paxton top is very well made. The knit material is thick and substantial. Frankly, I wouldn’t wear this on a hot day outside but being in airconditioning shouldn’t be a problem. Love the back design!

20120118-020324.jpg

bB has already placed a back-order for the Deep Plum. :)

Sizing: bB is a UK4-6. Love Bonito’s size XS sometimes fits, sometimes is too big. The Paxton top in XS is a good fit, thank goodness.

Hope this has been useful for some of you out there!
