Giving Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving!

It is a shame that Thanksgiving isn’t a bigger deal in Asia than it should be. Some people argue that it shouldn’t take a designated day for people to reflect and be thankful. But I think it’s a wonderful way to have the family and friends together, to have a bit of tradition to share and enjoy. Where is the joy in life without celebration (and good food)?

My family is not into celebrations. They don’t celebrate anything, at all. As a kid, I found it a little confusing that things were so different from what I read in books and saw on teevee. After a while, I simply concluded that I was a bit of an oddball around here. :)

So! Let me take a moment to write about everything I am grateful for.

I am thankful for my family. Despite our differences, they have been there for me, always.

I am thankful for my friends. Their love and support have been steadfast and constant.

I am thankful for Mr Bb. Especially for being the only person who has kicked my white night problem. For understanding. And for holding my hand.

I am thankful for the roof over my head, the food on the table, the clothes on my back, the shoes on my feet.

I am thankful for my good health.

And I hope I will never stop being thankful for all the good things in my life.

Saybons French Food Factory

Say what? Saybons!

Caught up with Kathryn for lunch yesterday at this cute little French place. It’s almost like French fast food.

I was drawn by the escargots on the signboard… So we ordered three types! Garlic herb, pesto parmesan and mushroom duxelle…

I found all three quite palatable for the price (S$7.50-S$9 per half dozen). They do require a 10-minute waiting time though.

Interesting that they serve soup in mugs. We noticed the lack of a spoon.

The pumpkin soup was quite nice, with subtle flavours and a nice texture. Mushroom cheese crepe was a little inconsistent in the distribution of ingredients. I found the taste okay but Kathryn didn’t like it.

I quite liked this cute little joint. I know Kathryn wasn’t impressed but I won’t mind going there again for a quick and affordable French snack.
