One Saturday arvo a few weeks ago, Mr Bb and I checked out Jimmy Monkey for some comfort food.
I’ve had this place on my list of to-try places because the owner is Melbournian! I will never stop missing Melbourne…
The place was smaller than I expected but very nicely done. It does indeed feel like a cafe from Melbourne, maybe on Brunswick Street or Smith Street.
Upon their friendly recommendation, we ordered three things to share.
Tartine with goat’s cheese, smoked duck, orange blossom and mesclun salad. These flavours came together very nicely. I would have preferred a thinner slice of bread though. I think the thick slices made this a little heavy.
Pan seared lamb rack with caramelised granny smith apples and lamb jus. One of the better lamb racks I’ve had lately. Seared just right, beautifully pink and tender inside. It would have been perfect if it was a tad juicier, but it wasn’t dry at all. I’m just being greedy. It’s been so hard to find good lamb these days.
Truffle fat fries. These were awesome! Best eaten piping hot. But unlike most chips, these were still half decent after sitting around for a while.
Jimmy Monkey also serves alcoholic milkshakes and some intriguing milkshake flavours like Violet Crumble. We might have to go back to try that. The weekend breakfast menu looks good too.
